Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education facilitates the process of scholarships / fellowships offered by the foreign countries under Cultural / Educational Exchange Programmes. Most of the scholarships are for Research, Master’s, and Doctoral studies. 

Eligibility

When a scholarship offer is made by an allied foreign government, details are promptly shared on the application website, outlining the scholarship's value, eligibility requirements, age restrictions, necessary qualifications, and relevant experience. The subject areas for which applications are solicited are determined by the needs of the donor country or align with the national interests and resources of the donor country. The final selection of recipients is carried out by the offering country.

The JN Tata Endowment, established in 1892 by the founder of the Tata group, has since supported over 5,600 Indian students in their overseas higher education endeavors, offering loan scholarships for masters, Ph.D., and postdoctoral studies across any field of education. Emphasizing merit, the Endowment aims to foster India's brightest minds for the nation's benefit. Recipients, like former President KR Narayanan and astrophysicist Jayant Narlikar, have gone on to make significant contributions in various sectors, showcasing the Endowment's prestigious legacy.

Additionally, the Tata Trusts offer means grants for students in Mumbai for college and school fees based on need, with an application deadline of January 31, 2024. The eligibility is restricted to students within Mumbai, passing their last exams, with a limitation of two children per family.

Merit-based scholarships from the Trusts cover diverse fields from Speech Therapy to Medical Sciences, and special grants support Civil Aviation aspirants and professional enhancement.

The Lady Meherbai D Tata Education Trust provides overseas master's scholarships for women in social work and related fields, though applications for 2023-2024 are closed.

The Rotary Foundation offers a variety of grants to support diverse projects and initiatives led by Rotary members worldwide. Here's a summary of the different types of grants available:

Global Grants: These are for large international projects that have sustainable and measurable outcomes, aligning with Rotary's areas of focus.

Qualification: Clubs and districts must be qualified to receive funding from The Rotary Foundation.

Programs of Scale Grants: These grants are designed for large-scale projects that have a significant impact on a large number of people or a vast geographical area.

Disaster Response Grants: These grants are aimed at supporting relief and recovery efforts in areas affected by natural disasters.

Grant Model Evaluation: The Rotary Foundation evaluates its grant model every five years. An annual progress report is produced by Rotary staff for the Trustees, providing vital data that informs decisions about grants.

Educational Crisis Scholarship Support (ECSS)

HDFC Bank believes that the benefits of economic growth need to flow to all sections of society. Although not a panacea, education would be one of the main interventions that would lead to the overall economic and social development of the society. With the aim of empowering individuals who are economically and socially disadvantaged, the bank has initiated various projects in the field of education and livelihood training. ‘Educational Crisis Scholarship Support’ (ECSS) program is envisaged to provide interim support for children facing a personal/economic exigency. ECSS aims to cover students from recognized Private or Government aided schools between 6 th and 12 standards and students studying in undergraduate and post-graduate courses who due to personal/family crises are unable to continue bearing the cost of education and are at risk of dropping out of school/college/university. The Scholarship will cover the total annual School Fee upto a maximum of Rs.10, 000/- and College/University Fee upto a maximum of Rs.25, 000/- of the selected candidates.

Eligibility

• The ECSS applicant should be a resident of India

• For school students- He/she should be studying in a recognized private and/or Govt. aided th th schools between 6 to 12 Standards.

• For college students- He / she should be studying in a AITCE / UGC recognized private / Government  university pursuing full-time / part-time degree / diploma / vocational training courses.

• The annual family income from all sources should not exceed Rs. 3,00,000/- (Rupees three lakhs only)

• Only one application per family will be considered for the scholarship.

• The regulations can be changed at any time at the discretion of the Management of HDFC Bank.

• The scholarship fund is non-transferable. 

Aditya Birla

Instituted in 1999, this aspirational scholarship extends to the country’s top scholars from 21 premier institutes: BITS Pilani, IITs, IIMs, XLRI and premier law colleges such as The National Law School University, Bangalore; Nalsar University of Law, Hyderabad; National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata; The Gujarat National Law University; The National Law University, Jodhpur.

 

The aspirational Aditya Birla Scholarship Programme accords significant financial support and enables scholars to bond with students from select institutes and network with leaders from the Aditya Birla Group. On the Aditya Birla Scholarship roster are 684 scholars

 

The scholarship amounts are:

  • Management: Rs. 3 lakhs

  • Engineering: Rs. 1.50 lakhs

  • Law: Rs. 1.80 lakhs

Undergraduate Scholarships

Half of India’s population, or over 600 million Indians, are under the age of 25. Reliance Foundation is committed to strengthening young people’s access to higher education in India. The Reliance Foundation Undergraduate Scholarships aim to support up to 5,000 meritorious students based on a merit-cum-means criteria for their undergraduate college education, empowering them to continue their studies without financial burden. The Scholarships aim to enable students to become successful professionals and realize their dreams, unlocking their potential to lift themselves and their communities up and contributing towards India’s future socio-economic development.

Students with a household income of under Rs. 15 lakh who are enrolled in first year of their undergraduate studies pursuing any subject stream can apply. The programme will also aim to encourage applications by girls and specially-abled students.

​

Selected scholars will receive a scholarship of up to 2 lakhs over the duration of their degree programme.  In addition to the scholarship grant, the Reliance Foundation Undergraduate Scholarships will provide scholars an opportunity to be part of a vibrant alumni network and an enabling support system that will create long-term impact on their lives and career trajectories.

Postgraduate Scholarships

Tthe Reliance Foundation Postgraduate Scholarships aim to nurture world-class talent that will help power India’s new era of growth. Reliance Foundation will identify and support 100 of India's brightest postgraduate students with a generous grant award and a strong development programme, nurturing future leaders who can think big, think green, think digital for the benefit of society.

First-year postgraduate students from institutes across India pursuing degree programmes in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Sciences, Mathematics and Computing, Electrical and/or Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Renewable and New Energy, Material Science & Engineering and Life Sciences are eligible to apply. Reliance Foundation Scholarships will nurture and support these bright students with a holistic development programme, including expert interactions, industry exposure and volunteering opportunities creating a cohort of excellence, every year.
